Blackheath Village Hall was built in 1897 by one of the benefactor developers in the Village, Mr Henry Warner-Prescott, who lived at Cheshunt. The Hall was built on land donated by the Cowley-Lamberts of Great Tangley Manor, who also owned the adjacent property, Chestnut Corner. The original building was designed by Charles Harrison-Townsend, and consisted of a main hall with side entrance lobby, small rear meeting room and outside toilets. Various improvements were made to the building 1932, 1965, 1976, 1993 and 1998/9. This included a new stage, kitchen, toilet facilities and more recently the reconstruction of the floor with new gas central heating and windows.

The Hall has seen many uses and was originally a men's club in the evening with a local school occupying the property during the day. During the World War II it was used as a school for evacuees, and then as a canteen and entertainment centre for troops during the build-up to D-Day. Currently the Hall is used by the badminton club, a short mat bowls club, toddler group and amateur dramatic group. There are many opportunities to let the Village Hall for parties, receptions, keep-fit clubs and any other organisations. Gift Aid Scheme
This initiative commenced in 2002 and we have raised over £7500 from the residents of Blackheath village since its inception. Village Halls are meeting places at the heart of rural villages and exist to serve as a focus for activites of Blackheath residents and the local community. Blackheath Village owns the Village Hall, and the Village Hall Committee ensures that the building is maintained to the highest possible standards.

The upkeep of the property is becoming too much of a burden for the diminishing number of people who carry out the work and so the Gift Aid Schme has been designed to support the Village Hall Committee. Recent large expenditure for the roof and windows have been paid for by grants and donations from the Blackheath Village Society, with the May Day Fair being the main source of funding.

The tax system provides a number of incentives for individuals to give to charity and we have chosen to use the Gift Aid route as the most effective method for our initiative. More information can be obtained from www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/charities/donors.

Donors can make payments to UK charities under Gift Aid as we Charity No. 291875. The Donor simply gives the charity a declaration in which the donor confirms they will pay an amount of income tax and capital gains tax equal to the tax the charity claims on their donations.

Gift Aid allows the charity to reclaim the basic rate of tax on the donations form the Inland Revenue, which means that the donation is worth an extra 28% to the charity. At the end of the financial year you will receive a Tax Certificate showing all your Gift Aid payments and the amounts which can be included in your self assessment tax return. Our bank details are Nat West Bank, 151 High Street, Guildford, Surrey GU1 3AH, sort code 60-09-21, account no. 12763454, account name Blackheath Village Hall Account.
