Blackheath Village Hall - Income and Funding
Income from lettings and Hall fund raising events just about meets the general running costs, but major repairs and improvements have to be funded by grants (which are increasingly harder to obtain), or other sources. For example, sometimes the Village Society donate a percentage of the proceeds from the May Fair, and these funds are very welcome.
The Management Committee, aware that funds are hard won, have always kept costs down by much DIY by committee members, and other volunteers. If any villagers or club members are willing to help in this way, please contact Graham Hayward (893969).
Many village halls in the country have had to close because of lack of interest and finance. Blackheaths lovely Village Hall is large for the size of the community, and has only survived because of much hard work and the generosity of villagers and users over many years.
In order to help the Hall survive, the Village Society, mindful of the increasing demands on their resources, and under the initiative of the then Chairman, Paul Brodie, set up a Gift Aid Scheme in 2002. The administration of this successful Scheme is now undertaken by Brian Monk.
Whether making a one-off payment, or giving regular contributions, Gift Aid ensures the Hall receives financial support from villagers, whether or not there is assistance from May Fair funds.
The section on the Gift Aid Scheme gives more information and a downloadable Gift Aid Declaration form.
