Blackheath WhatsApp Group (press for Details)

My name is Nicola Duffey, I've recently moved into the area from Kingston where I Chaired a fair number of Police committees and steering groups.  Off the back of these committees, I set up WhatsApp groups in the local area so we could quickly and effectively disseminate accurate and relevant information that was time sensitive and relevant to the area.

These groups allowed the community to raise awareness of:


  • Suspicious vehicles or activity - ability to share concerns instantly and then disseminate Crime Report numbers and help the Police join the dots 

  • Lost dogs / cats (although the cats invariably always returned even after 5 weeks! But for lost dogs this could be crucial in that first half hour)

  • Smell smoke or see fire - this wasn't that common in Kingston! But a rapid response / notification to the local community based on the current issues Blackheath have seen I think this form of communication will be invaluable especially to say 'The Fire Brigade have been called....' etc.

 

The group is as useful as those who are members and who share the information they see or hear, and also forward information from other groups that they are members of which they think is relevant to a wider group.

It's a small group at the moment but I've found they grow as people start to use them and hopefully find it useful. 

I'll monitor the group for now (although they do tend to be self-monitoring!) and general guidance for posting is nothing political, personal or private. 

 

If anyone wants to be an admin please do shout but unless you all go off on one I think I've got it!
